Red Rock Park
Red Rock Park was an unplanned stop
for us, but in the end we were glad we did. It is a moderate
sized park located about 15 miles west of Denver. The park
features a natural amphitheater. The area is
highlighted huge red sandstone formations. |

We went to Denver for the day to do some shopping and go to a baseball game in the evening. While driving
around, we came across this park and decided to check it out. It only took
and hour or two for us to check things out. We walked the 1.25 mile trail and
looked around the visitors center. The only thing we did not do was
wander up to the amphitheater, because we needed to get back for the
game. We saw two deer while walking trail. Fortunately we did not encounter any of the rattlesnakes, which are supposed to be prevalent there. Mountain lions also hang out
in the area, but are not seen very frequently.
The amphitheater seats 9000. The Grateful Dead played here several times, John Tesh recorded a live album here, President Clinton campaigned
here as well. Other bands who have played there recently include Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Blues Traveler, Jimmy Buffet, and
Megadeth.
It was
pretty amazing, free and it didn't take a very long to check it
out.
