Our trip to Winter Park, Colorado was our first major vacation
together. It was also our honeymoon. The trip was from
September 20-27, 1998. This was the best trip we have taken and it will be a difficult trip to
beat - mostly because it was our honeymoon,
but partly because it was just a really good place to go. |

Since we
went at the end of September, it was between the summer tourist season and
the winter ski season so the area was pretty quiet, which made things even
better. We didn't care as much about the different festivals and
special weekends that go on as much as we wanted to have our time together
and time tromp around through the mountains. Bob had never seen the
Rockies and it had been a long time for Stacie so it was quite a treat.
It was truly amazing to be there. The trees were just starting to
turn for the fall colors, although things were mostly green. We
really enjoyed driving and walking through the mountains and seeing the
sites. We spent a lot of time in Rocky Mountain National Park, but
also spent some time in Denver and enjoyed our time in Winter Park and
Fraser. We stayed in a friend's condo in Fraser. It was a
wedding present we had received from a friend of Bob's. Winter Park
and Fraser are only a mile apart and both are small towns - Winter Park
has a population of approximately 525, while Fraser is bigger at
575. Both have the capacity to hold many people however as there are
condos and resorts galore. It's pretty cool driving into the towns
as you can see from above that the majority of both towns line either side
of the highway that passes through. The area is well equipped to
handle tourists though as there are many restaurants, places to stay,
outdoor shops and related businesses.
If you like the outdoors, this is definitely a place to go. In
the summer there are excellent trails for hiking and in the winter the
skiing is supposed to be awesome. We really enjoyed going in late
September because we found things to be not very crowded and we were able
to eat and spend time at things that might not have been possible
otherwise.
