Trip Overview
We were in St. Louis from July 4-9, 2000. A lot of the trip was devoted to helping at the Gathering. We had also planned on doing some vacation type things and did manage to squeeze some in. Due to our volunteer obligations, it was difficult to plan anything specific ahead of time. Our hotel was downtown, only a block away from the convention center and TWA Dome. We spent a lot of time walking various places downtown. It was nice staying so close to so many things.
Tuesday - July 4th
- Arrived in St. Louis and went to our hotel. We stayed at a really nice one too - the Mayfair Hotel. Thank goodness for discounted rates. If you want to stay in a really nice place with big suites, stay here. The pool is on the roof.
- Received orientation on some of our volunteer duties and assisted with early registration
- Went down to the Arch for fireworks, which was very cool. The fireworks are set off from a barge on the Mississippi and it appears like they are going off between the legs of the Arch
Wednesday
- This was the main registration day. We ended up working 12 hours this day helping people register, selling Metrolink passes and giving out general information.
Thursday
- Bob and Corey went on the Habitat for Humanity bus while Stacie and Brandy worked in the information booths.
- Went to Busch Stadium for a Cardinals game.
Friday
- Tour group day - We were volunteer chaperones. We mostly had to be sure everyone got on the bus that was supposed to at each stop. Bob and Corey went to the Missouri State Historical Society and the Holocaust Museum. Stacie and Brandy went to the Old Cathedral and the Basilica.
- In the morning, we went to the Arch for some site seeing.
- Worship that night feature Archbishop Desmond Tutu - a truly wonderful and inspiring event.
Saturday
- We had the day off so we did some site seeing. The ladies all went to Union Station to have lunch together and do some shopping.
- Bob and Corey walked to the Budweiser Brewery. We just missed the bus, so we walked over 3 miles.
Sunday
- Went to the final worship of the Gathering
- Went to the Zoo for a couple of hours before getting ready to head for home
