Charleston, South Carolina

We only spent a day in Charleston, but it was fun day.  We saw Fort Sumter National Monument and the South Carolina Aquarium.  We really enjoyed both attractions.  We spent a little bit of time walking around the historic district and found that fascinating also.  Someday we would like to spend more time here.   Some of the historic homes of Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is a city with a long history in United States settlement.  At one time, it was one of the four largest cities in the US.  It was (and still is to a lesser degree) a major shipping port.  Tourism is a big industry here and you can frequently see military air craft flying overhead.

Thoughts and Recommendations

  • The population of Charleston and the metro area is just over 100,000 people, so it isn't too bad to get around in.
  • Walk down some of the historic streets and look at the historic homes, many of which are still private residences.  Many of the homes are over 150 years old!
  • There is a lot to do here.  We could have easily stayed several days.
  • White Point Gardens at the peninsula of Charleston was pretty neat.  Many statutes and artifacts exist from the various wars Charleston has been part of including the Revolution and Civil Wars.
