State Parks
On Friday, we decided to visit Tettegouche State Park for the first
time and Gooseberry Falls State Park for the 3rd consecutive year.
Tettegouche State Park
This year we visited Tettegouche State Park for the
first time. The park is about 60 miles north of Duluth near
Silver Bay. The park is an outdoor enthusiasts dream with
many miles of hiking trails and many canoeing opportunities.
We just spent a couple of hours there, hiking a three-quarter of a
mile trail to see the Highest Falls pictured at right. Other
than it being really overcast and we got sprinkled on a couple of
times, it wasn't a bad hike. The trail was easy to follow
and not too rugged. |

The park is also well known for rock climbing opportunities.
Much of the park is accessed only by trails, which probably means if
you like to hike, this is a good place to go without being around a
lot of other people. The park has camping and some cabins for
lodging as well. For more information, visit their website

Gooseberry Falls State Park
For the third straight year, we visited Gooseberry Falls
State Park. This year we went on a Friday hoping t
wouldn't be so busy and we were right. After a drizzly
morning, the skies cleared up and we had a nice walk around
the falls once again. It is a beautiful park at attracts
many people on the weekends. We advise going during the
week to enjoy the falls with a lot fewer people
around. |
