We liked Duluth so much last year that we had
to go again this year. This time, we went a week later and caught
the trees closer to peak color for the Fall season. Stacie's mom
and dad went with us on this trip.
They had never vacationed in Duluth so we thought we would show them why
we liked it so much. |

We went back to some of our favorite attractions from last year,
like the Glensheen Mansion and Gooseberry Falls. We also made
sure we saw some new things like the William A. Irvin Ore Boat Museum
and the Split Rock Lighthouse. One of our favorite activities
ended up being watching ships leave the harbor. We saw three large ships pass under the Aerial Lift
Bridge, on their way out to Lake Superior.
We had really good weather while we were there. At times it
was a little chilly at the bridge, but overall it nothing to complain
about.
Thoughts/Recommendations
- During the Fall season, make reservations early. Last year
we got lucky. This year, we called over 2 weeks ahead of time
and had some trouble. We ended up staying in Superior, WI just
across the harbor, 5 minutes from downtown Duluth.
- Fall colors come out earlier in northern areas of the country and
work their way down. Peak color season in the Duluth area
tends to be around the last week of September, first week of
October.
- This is a great city to come to. There are a lot of touristy
things to do, but yet it's not such a popular tourist location that
you feel like you are in a large group of tourists all the
time.
- The population is approximately 85,000 people and has a college
there. That makes it big enough to have most things and small
enough you never have to worry about rush-hour traffic.
- Take some time to drive around the city. It is a beautiful
city with many large older homes. Much of the city sits on the
hillside looking down over Lake Superior.
- Keep in mind Duluth is pretty far north when packing your
clothes. Temperatures are usually a little cooler here than
they are further south.
