Other Attractions
There are many other attractions in Duluth that we have not given a
unique page to. Here is some information on some of those
items. Below is an index of items on this page. Click an
item to jump to it.
Aerial Lift Bridge
North Shore Railroad
North Shore Lake Walk
Two Harbors Lighthouse

Probably the most distinguishing feature of the
Duluth skyline is the Aerial Lift Bridge. The bridge connects a small
island with a few homes and businesses to the rest of Duluth.
In order for ships and boats to pass into the harbor, the bridge
lifts up as in the picture above. The bridge can lift to its'
full height in approximately 55 seconds to accommodate the large
ocean going vessels such as the grain ship pictured in the
background.
We drove across the bridge and walked around the park at the end of
the island. Pretty cool stuff. Click
Here to see a cheesy animation of the bridge in action.
The animation was created in Flash 4. If you do not have the
plug in for this, it is a free download at www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer. |

The North Shore Railroad offers a variety of different rides including
a pizza train, dinner train or just a regular ride. We took an
afternoon ride along the North Shore in a vintage railroad car. A
conductor on board tells some of the history of the car and the railroad
and also provides a lot of interesting information on the area. |

Another great attraction in Duluth is to walk along the North
Shore Lake Walk. The city has
built a great path to walk on - some of it blacktop, some wooden
boards. It is a very scenic walk and it is a park atmosphere
as well. There's even a rose garden with more than 3000 rose
bushes in Leif Erikson Park. |

Lighthouses are all around Lake Superior.
On our way back from Gooseberry Falls State Park, we stopped and
visited the one in Two Harbors. We walked around the beach and
out onto a long pier where there is a small lighthouse that works in
conjunction with the real deal pictured at left.
